About Us

The Cedar Valley Hospitality House is an inter-faith volunteer organization which provides day-time shelter, support and encouragement to the homeless and those in need.  The Cedar Valley Hospitality House opened at its current temporary location in December 2009.

Mission  --  Our mission is to uphold the dignity and value of every human person by providing shelter, basic amenities, and a listening ear to individuals who are homeless or in need.  We are inspired by the words of the Christian Gospel: "Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me" (Matthew 25.40).

Services  -- The Cedar Valley Hospitality House provides coffee, showers, clean clothes, computer access, local telephone access, referral to community services, and light meals (on weekends).

Location  --  The Cedar Valley Hospitality House is located at 1003 Mulberry Street (on the corner of 8th and Mulberry) in downtown Waterloo.

Hours  -- The Cedar Valley Hospitality House is open seven days a week, from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  A light meal is served at noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Volunteers

The Cedar Valley Hospitality House is served by volunteers who donate their time and services for morning (9:00am-12:30pm), afternoon (12:30-4:00pm) or all-day (9:00am-4:00pm) shifts.  There are two volunteers present on every shift.  Compassion and a desire to work for the common good are the only requirements.

Volunteers welcome visitors, coordinate the House's services, and when possible help guests locate other resources and services which are available in the local community.  Volunteers are also needed to prepare a light lunch on Saturdays and Sundays, to provide occasional maintenance, snow-removal and yard care.

To volunteer, call 319-234-1311.
