For
too long we've allowed a wall to separate our faith
lives from our money. It's time we break down that barrier
and move forward on the journey to true financial
freedom: freedom from debt, learning to be generous,
and knowing how to set godly priorities, which includes
saving for the important things in life.

About the Seven Steps
Workshop
When most people think about
personal finances, they think about debts...and budgets...checkbooks...bank accounts...investments...
financial planning.
Sure, says Phil Lenahan, these are all important, ...but there's something even more
crucial: the attitude you have toward money will do more
for determining whether you become truly financially free than
any other issue.
Lenahan, who wrote Seven Steps to Becoming Financially
Free--A Catholic Guide to Managing Your Money, believes that a combination of good financial management,
budgeting, investing -- and faith -- are the foundation
for a sound financial future which is consistent with the
principles of good stewardship and Catholic Social Teaching.
Seven Steps to
Becoming Financially Free
is a seven-week workshop which offers a Catholic perspective
on how to make the most of God's generous gifts. In addition to
understanding the necessary nuts and bolts of financial
management, budgeting and investing, participants will discover
how their Catholic faith can be the foundation for a sound financial
future.
Using a combination of reading, video presentations and
discussion, the workshop provides practical advice on how to
take the gifts God has given you -- your skills, your education,
your training, your income -- and use them as God intends. Here is
helpful advice not only on how to get out
of debt and begin saving, but also how to set
budgeting priorities and achieve long-term financial goals that reflect
what you believe as a Catholic Christian.

From
the Author:
Over
the years I've had the opportunity to visit with thousands of
people regarding their financial situations. A recurring theme
that is mentioned is the feeling of being in bondage....Most
Americans experience some form of financial bondage, so it's
important to know that you're not alone. But that doesn't
mean you should stay there....
How
can we achieve that freedom and what does it mean for you?
We achieve true financial freedom by learning and applying godly
principles to our financial affairs. These principles are
found in the Bible -- God's love letter to us -- and the
teaching of our Catholic faith. By apply these principles
consistently, you'll find your marriage and parenting skills
enhanced, your debt eliminated, an ability to save for future
needs, and a joy that comes with learning to be generous. What sets
this guide apart is that while it is about managing money, its
primary aim is to show the important link that exists between
our faith journey and how we handle our money....
The journey toward true financial freedom is simple, but you'll
need to do your part. No one can do this for you.
It's up to you to make the commitment to be a good steward of
the gifts God has given you....

When most people think about what it takes to successfully
manage their money, what comes to mind are budgets, checkbook
management, reconciling of bank accounts, monitoring of
investments, and tax planning, among other things. Sure,
these are all important,...but there's something even more
crucial: The attitude you have toward money will do more
for determining whether you become truly financially free than
any other issue....
It starts with the role money plays in your life. Is it a
means of fulfilling your God-given responsibilities, or is it an
end in itself? Are your financial goals determined by the
culture, with an emphasis on having? Or do they have as
their foundation the sure-footed principles we find in sacred
Scripture and the teaching Tradition of our Catholic faith,
which emphasizes 'being' over 'having'?
