Adult Faith Formation Report / October, 2008

A. Initiation and Evangelization

1. Rites of Christian Initiation and Reception
a. The RCIA Inquiry continues to meet on Wednesday evenings at Blessed Sacrament.  This is a very attentive and inquisitive group, which has asked many questions.  We've adopted a procedure for answering questions in the regular rotation of discussions, but will pre-empt one of the Inquiry sessions just to deal with questions if that seems necessary.

2. Inactive and Alienated Catholics (Strategic Plan E.4.d)
a. The Listening Session for inactive Catholics is Wednesday evening, Oct. 22.  I placed two small ads in the Courier for this session.

3. Singles Ministry
a. The November Single Mingle is Nov. 8 at Diamond Dave's.
b. The singles will sponsor a potluck and presentation Nov. 22 at Sacred Heart.  Fr. Juhl will speak on abundance and gratitude.

B. Adult Formation, Education and Spiritual Growth

1. Adult Formation/Education
a. Eight people registered for the workshop From Anger to Forgiveness which is meeting at Kimball Ridge Center on Thursday evenings.
b. Four people are enrolled in the Divorce and Beyond process which is meeting on Thursday evenings at St. Edward's New Life Center.
c. Twelve people attended the Catholic Forum on Faithful Citizenship Oct. 20 at the Cellar.
d. The first Five Wishes Workshop is scheduled for Nov. 12 at St. Edward Parish.  Other workshops will be held in February and April at Sacred Heart and Queen of Peace.
e. The "St. Paul for Our Times" conference with Fr. Jay Harrington OP will be held Friday evening, Nov. 14, and Saturday morning, Nov. 15, at St. Edward.
f. The parishes have agreed to be co-sponsors with AARP, Catholic Charities and other organizations for a presentation Dec. 11 by Dr. Elizabeth Harper Neeld on coping with loss at the holidays.  The presentation will be aimed at individuals and families impacted by the spring disasters in northeast Iowa.  Neeld is author of Tough Transitions--Navigating Your Way Through Difficult Times and Seven Choices--Finding Daylight After Loss Shatters Your World.
g. Some parishioners at St. Edward have asked us to consider sponsoring a DVD-based series called Financial Peace University, conducted by Dave Ramsey.  This is described as "a biblically-based accountability class that will train [participants] to manage their resources."

2. Spiritual Growth (Strategic Plan E.2.a, E.2.b)
a. 32 people attended the Reflection Evening for lectors Oct. 15.

C. Social Concerns (Strategic Plan L.3)

1. Social Concerns and Social Justice
