First Tuesday for
Younger Couples

What Is First Tuesday?

First Tuesday is a monthly support and enrichment program for married couples sponsored by the Catholic parishes in Cedar Falls and Waterloo.

First Tuesday was created in 1994, and is now celebrating its 15th anniversary as a regular opportunity for married couples of any age or faith who want to enrich their married life, discuss common concerns with other married couples, and continue growing together.

First Tuesday meets monthly (except July and August) on the first Tuesday evening of the month.  Meetings are open to the public.  There is no registration or fee.  Married couples may attend regularly each month or occasionally from time to time, depending on their time, interest and personal needs.

On an average month, attendance may range from 12 to 15 couples.  Some are veterans who attend regularly each month; others come occasionally.  All of the couples attending First Tuesday regularly over the past few years have generally been over the age of 40.

What Is First Tuesday for Younger Couples?

First Tuesday for Younger Couples is a version of the original First Tuesday designed for young married couples between the ages of 25 and 40.

It will meet on the first Tuesday evening of each month, at the same time and in the same location, but separately from, the original First Tuesday group.

The format of First Tuesday for Younger Couples will remain the same as that for the original group.  Each meeting will be divided into two sections:
• A presentation by a young married couple, sharing some aspect of their
experience as a married couple, followed by a discussion of the
  presentation.
• An "open forum" during which anyone can express concerns, ask
questions, or share insights about married life.

Like the original First Tuesday, First Tuesday for Younger Couples will appeal most to couples who have a good marriage and want to make it better ... couples whose marriage needs a little extra attention ... and couples who are experiencing some of the challenges that accompany every normal marriage.  (Married couples with severe problems may find First Tuesday helpful, in conjunction with professional counseling.)

First Tuesday for Younger Couples is not a social club.  The format will be informal and confidential, but couples may remain anonymous.  A friendly atmosphere will encourage couples to share if they are comfortable doing so, but there will be no obligation to speak.  Every person's observations are treated with respect.  We will discourage criticism and advice.  Many younger couples participating in First Tuesday may discover, as older couples have, that the most valuable sharing occurs later, outside the group, when a couple shares privately with each other.

Our Vision

Our purpose is to encourage and enrich one another by our presence and by sharing the wisdom we have gained from our own experience as married persons.
None of us is an expert.  None of us has a perfect marriage.  We are married people who share common experiences, common problems, common hopes, and common fears.
We believe that every married couple needs encouragement and support.
We believe that a good marriage takes time, attention and tender-loving care.
We welcome the opportunity to meet other married couples who share our commitment to married life.

First Tuesday's “Dinner-for-Two”

Couples participating in First Tuesday receive a First Tuesday “Dinner-for-Two” card which may be used in a variety of local restaurants on the first Tuesday evening of each month.  The card entitles couples to purchase one entree or sandwich at the regular price and receive an entree or sandwich of equal value free.
