The Gospels Side-by-Side
About the Program
The Gospels Side-by-Side is an introductory overview
for adults and young adults who have
basic questions about the Gospels and the New Testament. The
series will be facilitated by Fr. Louis Jaeger, pastor of Sacred
Heart Parish in Waterloo.
The series will begin on Wednesday,
February 16, and meet from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Wednesday
afternoons in the Rectory Classroom at Sacred Heart Parish.
A Saturday or Sunday series will be offered if a sufficient
number of people are interested.
Fr. Jaeger will begin with an
outline of the New Testament and a brief look at the Gospels'
Old Testament background, then begin an examination of the
Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
This
series will examine what a Gospel is, why and by whom the
Gospels were written, to whom they were written, why they are written the way they
are, and what they say about Jesus. This is a comparative
study which will examine the different ways Jesus is presented in the
four Gospels and the reasons for differences from one Gospel to
the next.
This overview will put the whole New Testament into perspective
and help participants understand what the early Christian
community remembered and treasured about Christ. A weekend
series will be offered if a sufficient number of people are
interested.
