Pope Benedict's Recent Visit

He made the Church feel good about itself
I felt that through his visit with his gentle, kind and humble spirit he made the church feel good about itself again.  Hopefully after years of "downers" we can now begin to move on.

American Catholics respect the Papacy
I was glad when the Pope visited with abuse victims.  Even John Paul II didn't do that...which was a mistake, I feel.  I believe American Catholics have respect for the Papacy even if they don't always agree with some of the Church's teachings.  The office is respected and I think even President Bush
basked in the Pope's high ratings, especially since his are so low!

“Young families need an invitation”
I think resources should be focused mostly on the young people.  I was involved in "Cursillos in Christianity" the Spanish movement in the 60's and those alumni I still see over the years are involved and continue to be in service to the church (that's 40 years of engagement)….  We need to move on with a program, from those supporting the church with treasure alone and not engaging in the talent and gifted areas….  "Visible vitality"…is what the older members feed on for their hope in the Church. The young families need to be given "an invitation" to be part of something like the 60's movement and the rest, I'm convinced, will take care of itself. A multi-front program, might engage at different age levels throughout the Church, too. But, it's the young people who will boy-up and carry the Church today and tomorrow! I see them at the Student Center.  Saint Vincent de Paul for instance, is…currently training Vincentians in the core purpose of it's world mission: "Serving in Hope"(our Vincentian Vocation)….  If we don't renew now, an opportunity like the Cursillo movement may take people in another direction, draining resources and ending up like the Catholics of Europe.
