2012 Busy World
Online Lenten Retreat

Sunday, March 4 - Sunday, March 11
(Participation fee: $5.00 per participant)

2012 Theme
“One Necessary Thing”
By Gregory S. Jeffrey

About the Theme
Jesus says only one thing is necessary for salvation: that we should know and follow him.  In the reflections chosen for this year's online retreat, author Gregory Jeffrey helps us focus on that "one necessary thing" and what we can do to strengthen it in our lives this Lent.  Jeffrey's short, pithy reflections, drawn from the readings of the day for the second week in Lent, help us focus on how we preach and practice our faith, where we fail to imitate God's generosity, the need for reconciliation and God's lavish mercy.

Gregory Jeffrey writes:
A beloved and devoted disciple of Jesus, Martha earned her fame in Scripture in the most unlikely way: She simply wanted help serving dinner. And she wanted Jesus to support her most reasonable request. That prompted a loving reprimand from the Lord, who told Martha she was “anxious and worried about many things.” Jesus reminded her, “There is need of only one thing” (Luke 10:41-42)

That's a good reminder for us, too, especially during Lent when its added spiritual disciplines may seem burdensome. Instead, Lent calls us to put aside the many things that occupy our days and focus instead on the one necessary thing--our relationship to Jesus.
…This Lent, let us find in Scripture an antidote to the anxieties of daily life and a path to a deeper encounter with the Lord of all our days.

Find Out More About
Our Busy World Retreats

What is a Busy World Retreat?

A Busy World Retreat is designed for adults, young adults, couples, families, friends and members of small faith-sharing groups who are too busy to participate in a traditional weekend or weeklong retreat outside the home. It is a seven day retreat experience which takes place in the midst of everyday life.

During a Busy World Retreat, the individual's time for prayer and quiet reflection takes place in their home, work, or another environment of their choosing, at whatever time of day is convenient for them.

How Does a Busy World Online Retreat Work?

Participants register for the retreat and are given access to daily prayers and reflection material posted online.

During the next seven days, participants reflect privately each day on a scripture passage or spiritual reading and on the reflection questions assigned by the retreat guide.

Participants may share their thoughts and insights online with other participants.

If helpful, participants may arrange to meet privately with the retreat guide following the final group discussion.

Who Can Participate in a Busy World Retreat?

Adults and young adults of any age are welcome to participate in a Busy World Retreat.  This is an opportunity for anyone who wishes to spend some time reflecting on God's presence and goodness in their lives.  You do not need to be actively participating in a faith community, and you do not need to be familiar with the format or techniques of spiritual reflection in order to grow from a Busy World Retreat.  What you need is a desire to do this, and the commitment to spend 20 to 30 minutes each day in quiet reflection in an environment of your choice.
