d. Our "Winter at the Cellar" enrichment series for adults and young adults began on Jan. 17; 25 people attended the first session in the series featuring segments from the Catholicism documentary.

d. Fr. Jaeger's Wednesday afternoon adult study group will began meeting Jan. 18; 9 people attended the first session. The group will be viewing all ten segments from Catholicism.  Visiting pastors will help facilitate the group while Fr. Jaeger is recuperating from surgery.

e. Our Lenten enrichment series for adults and young adults will be titled "Pray All-Ways" and will feature short presentations and experiences of various forms of prayer.  The series will be held on Monday evenings at St. Edward, beginning Feb. 27.

3. Spiritual Growth (Strategic Plan E.2.a, E.2.b)
a. 15 people attended the Advent Mini-Retreat Dec. 4.
b. The mini-retreat scheduled for Jan. 22 was postponed to Jan. 29 due to the weather.  Bill Mulcahey will discuss the "scariest gospel," the Gospel of Mark.

C. Young Adults

1. Amy Hoyer and I are planning a Theology on Tap series for Lent.  The series will begin Feb. 28 and meet on Tuesday evenings at My Verona in Cedar Falls four five sessions.

D. Social Concerns (Strategic Plan L.3)

1. Social Justice
a. About 25 people attended the national Homeless Persons Memorial Day prayer vigil Dec. 21 in Lincoln Park.

2. Interfaith
a. The next open houses sponsored by the Cedar Valley Interfaith Council will be Feb. 12 at Cedar Falls Mennonite and First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

E. Administration

1. The Waterloo Catholics Facebook page has been active since mid-December; response is growing slowly and the reach is now over 200 people.

a. Over 1,000 people attended ValLimar Jansen's workshops for middle and high school students Oct. 5-6; about 100 people attended her conference for adults and young adults at St. Stephen's on Oct. 6.

c. 32 people are participating in five small discussion groups which began Oct. 24; the groups are using Fr. Paul Turner's Understanding the Revised Mass Texts to study changes in the Mass.
d. 33 people are receiving our daily email messages about changes in the Mass.
e. Our Come to the Table parish mission will be held Nov. 13 at St. Patrick and Nov. 14 at St. Edward.  It will be conducted by Fr. Frank DeSiano, president of Paulist Evangelization Ministries.  The presentations will begin at 7:00pm.

2. Adult Formation and Enrichment
a. The Parishes and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare will co-host a Final Wishes Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Sacred Heart Parish.

b. We will be offering our annual Busy World Advent Retreat online during the second week in Advent (Dec 4-10).

a. 6 people attended the Poverty Simulation Sept. 30 at Allen College.
b. 15 people attended Nancy Garcia's presentation on the causes of migration Oct. 7 at Queen of Peace.

c. The Cedar Valley Hospitality House and Cedar Valley Catholic Social Justice Network will co-host a prayer vigil for Homeless Awareness Month Nov. 2 in Lincoln Park.
d. The Hospitality House and Social Justice Network will co-host an opportunity for people who want to learn more about homelessness in the metro area Nov. 20 at the Hospitality House.  The program will include a walking tour of locations where homeless people gather in downtown Waterloo.

2. Interfaith Relations
a. The Cedar Valley Interfaith Council will host open houses at St. Edward Parish and Sons of Jacob Synagogue on Sunday, Nov. 6.  This is the first in a series of open houses planned by the Council in response to 9/11 and the need for better understanding among different religious traditions.

5. Special Needs
a. We will be publicizing the Never Alone blog and forum for families with special needs in parish bulletins this month.
b. The parishes will host an Archdiocesan renewal day for persons with special needs on Oct. 22 at St. Stephen the Witness Student Center in Cedar Falls.

B. Adult Formation, Enrichment and Spiritual Growth

1. Come to the Table/Catechesis for the Roman Missal
a. The renewal evenings for youth and young adults with ValLimar Jansen are scheduled for Oct. 5 and 6. Ms. Jansen will meet with middle and high school students from CORE and parish formation programs on Oct. 5 at Blessed Sacrament; with high school students Oct. 6 at Columbus; with CVCS and St. Patrick middle school students Oct. 6 at St. Edward; and with young adults Oct. 6 at St. Stephen the Witness Student Center.
b. The workshop for liturgical ministers with Jackie Witter is scheduled for Oct. 16 at Blessed Sacrament.

c. A two-part parish mission will be held Nov. 13 at St. Patrick and Nov. 14 at St. Edward.  It will be conducted by Fr. Frank DeSiano, president of Paulist Evangelization Ministries.  The presentations will begin at 7:00pm.  We have received a grant from the Kucera Center at Loras to cover the costs of Fr. DeSiano's transportation.
d. We will be organizing small groups to discuss changes in the Mass at weekend Masses this weekend; groups will meet in October and will be using Fr. Paul Turner's study guide, Understanding the Revised Mass Texts.

2. General Adult Formation and Enrichment
a. Catholic evangelist Richard Lang has been added to our Catholic Speakers Series.  He will give a presentation in late October while he is in the archdiocese to conduct the retreat for deacons and their wives.  (Time and date TBA)
b. We have confirmed Fr. Dale Launderville's presentation on March 8 at American Martyrs Retreat House.  The evening will begin with supper at 6:00pm.

3. Spiritual Growth (Strategic Plan E.2.a, E.2.b)
a. 12 people attended the retreat on St. Theresa's Interior Castle sponsored by the parishes and Contemplative Outreach of Northeast Iowa August 26-28 at American Martyrs.

a. Plans for a young adult bible study are pending, due to Kathy Rottinghaus' decision to take a job in Missouri.

D. Social Concerns (Strategic Plan L.3)

a. As of this date two people from the parishes are registered to attend the next poverty simulation sponsored by Iowa State Extension and Allen College Sept. 30.

a. Information meetings for persons interested in joining the Catholic Church will be held Sept. 7 at Queen of Peace and Sept. 15 at St. Edward.
The RCIA Inquiry phase begins Sept. 28 and meets at Queen of Peace.

a. 14 catechumens participated in the Rite of Christian Initiation.
b. 13 candidates participated in the Rite of Christian Reception.
c. 12 adults participated in preparation for Confirmation.

a. Average attendance at the potlucks and mingles for single adults is between 25 and 35 people.
