Adult Faith Formation Report / April, 2008

A. Initiation and Evangelization 

1. Rites of Christian Initiation and Reception
a. The current Rite of Christian Reception concludes this coming weekend with meetings in the local parishes.  Eight candidates participated in the spring process.
b. We plan to invite candidates from the spring and fall 2007 RCRA sessions to a followup meeting in May.
c. The DREs and I will be scheduling next year's RCIA and RCRA sessions next week.

 2. Inactive and Alienated Catholics (Strategic Plan E.4.d)
a. The next Listening Session for inactive Catholics and Catholic Seekers is June 4.
b. I am continuing to advertise for the formation of a faith-sharing group for Catholic Seekers.  A description of the group has been added to the website.

 3. Single Adults
a. The next "Single Mingle" for singles ages 40-60 is May 9.  Mingles are scheduled through August.  Various other opportunities are also being planned for the summer.

B. Adult Formation, Education and Spiritual Growth

1. Adult Formation/Education
a. Six people attended the information meeting for Lay Formation April 15; only one was a member of a Waterloo parish.
b. A workshop for caregivers and Eucharistic ministers who visit the homebound is being planned for August.
c. I am planning another summer series, similar to last year's  "Summer at the Cellar."
d. I have been contacted about helping to organize a Moms group for the city and/or a retreat for Moms group members from the four parishes.

C. Young Adults (Strategic Plan E.3.e)

1. Theology on Tap
a. The Theology on Tap group will continue to plan various activities during the summer, including informal socials and discussions.

D. Social Concerns (Strategic Plan L.3)

1. Social Concerns and Social Justice
a. The Cool Congregations workshop co-hosted by the Catholic parishes and First Congregational Church is this coming Saturday, April 26.
b. Six people attended the Platform for the Common Good meeting April 22.
c. Four people have indicated an interest in participating in a study circle on race, co-sponsored by the parishes and New City Ministries.
d. I will be meeting with John Baker and John Hix to discuss some ways to encourage more parish participation in Habitat for Humanity projects.
e. I am discussing with PaxChristi and the Catholic Worker House the possibility of co-sponsoring a peace and justice video series this summer.
f. I plan to propose to the Social Concerns Committees an inservice for present and new committee members in late summer or early fall.

2. Interreligious Dialogue
a. The parishes are co-sponsors of the Yom HaShoah commemoration on Thursday, May 1, 7:00p. at the Waterloo Center for the Arts.

E. AFF Outreach, Administration and Communication (Strategic Plan L.1.c)

a. An adult formation planning forum is scheduled for Monday, May 5.
b. The AFF Advisory Committee will meet on Monday, May 12.
c. We will be conducting a survey of young adults and young married couples to determine how much interest there is in on-line formation, education and spiritual growth opportunities.
d. I will conclude my meetings with pastoral councils and education committee with the St. Edward Education Committee next week.
e. I plan to attend the Households of Faith training session this summer in St. Paul.
